In episode #29, we talked to Jackie at Interact Quiz Builder to chat about all things quizzes. Now, we want to help you choose a quiz topic for your business. Choosing a quiz topic people actually care about is the hardest part of building a quiz!
Why online quizzes are still the perfect way to connect with your audience.
Have you ever been sucked into one of those Facebook quizzes like “Which Harry Potter house are you in?” or “What animal are you?” We have! It’s fun to do little quizzes and get a personalized result.
We know people love personalized experiences. It’s a key email strategy for a reason! People don’t want to feel part of the crowd; they want to feel like you see and hear them as individuals.
Quizzes are a great way to do that! They’re fun and interactive, not salesy. It’s a genuine way to get people into your world. They naturally attract engaged leads who want to hear more from you.
So maybe you’re sold on the benefits of quizzes as a lead magnet. But how the heck do you figure out a quiz topic people will want to participate in?
Picking the Right Quiz Topic Matters
First, you need to have a hook. Your quiz topic is the first thing that grabs attention. It’s what draws your audience in and makes them curious enough to click. No pressure, right?
Then, think about the big picture. The right topic aligns with your audience’s needs, highlights your expertise, and connects seamlessly to your offerings. It should align with your overall goal of why you created the quiz in the first place, other than “everyone else is doing it.” What do you want to get out of it, and what do you want your audience to learn about you and/or themselves?
5 Questions to Ask Yourself When Brainstorming a Quiz Topic
Let’s get those creative juices flowing! Ask yourself these questions when you’re starting to brainstorm potential quiz topic ideas.
- What do I want this quiz to achieve? (e.g., lead generation, audience segmentation, product recommendation)
- What problems or challenges does my audience face?
- What questions do I get asked all the time?
- What would make my audience curious enough to click?
- How does this quiz connect to my products or services?
Types of Quiz Topics That Perform Well
We’re still experimenting with quizzes but have loved the results we’ve gotten so far. In our experience, these quiz topics tend to perform well.
Self-Discovery
These are always a hit because people love learning more about themselves. Even if it’s a little silly, self-discovery topics are highly engaging!
Example: “What’s Your SEO Personality?”
Challenge or Problem-Solving
Help them identify a gap or area to improve. This goes back to the question, “What problems or challenges does my audience face?”
Example: “Is Your Brand Connecting With Your Audience?”
Recommendations
Suggest the best solution, product, or service for them. Again, people want to learn about themselves, so make it personal!
Example: “What’s the Best Marketing Platform for Your Business?”
Fun and Relatable
Lighthearted topics that still connect to your brand. Have some fun with your quiz topic!
Example: “What’s Your Entrepreneurial Archetype?”
How to Tie Your Quiz Topic to Your Business Goals
You aren’t just creating this quiz for fun (even though it IS fun!) You want to make sure your quiz topic ties into your overall business goals.
Your quiz should attract leads who will naturally want your product or service. Our best-performing quiz last year was “How strong is your ‘Gram game? ” However, we no longer offer social media strategy. The people who took this quiz are on our email list, but our tips around SEO and branding aren’t super relevant to social media strategy. So, we created a new quiz focusing on our core offerings! Take it: Is Your Business Getting Seen?
Use your quiz to learn about your audience’s needs so you can tailor personalized follow-ups. For example, if your audience varies in experience levels, a quiz like “What’s Your SEO Skill Level?” could help you segment beginners vs. advanced users. We use Flodesk to do this!
Finally, ensure your quiz results naturally lead to an offer or resource you provide. It could be another freebie, low-ticket offer, online course, or one of your main service offerings. Just make sure you provide a CTA for them to continue interacting with your brand after receiving their quiz results.
Tools and Prompts to Help You Brainstorm a Quiz Topic
When we first started using Interact to build quizzes, we asked AI for help. Tools like ChatGPT can help you brainstorm quiz topics. Here’s an example of a prompt to use!
“What quiz topics could attract my audience of [insert your audience here] who struggle with [insert your audience challenges and problems here] and align with my offerings of [your top offerings], all while driving my overall goal of this quiz to [grow my email list, book a call, etc.]
You can also tap into your analytics to discover topic ideas. Review your most popular blog posts, FAQs, or audience comments to uncover common pain points.
Have you considered asking your audience what topics they would be interested in? Ask your followers what topics they’re interested in in an IG story.
Interact also provides templates or examples for quiz inspiration. They even have their own AI quiz-maker tool, which is incredibly helpful!
We highly recommend Interact Quiz Builder. The tool is super easy to use, and their support is amazing. Like we said at the beginning, the hardest part of creating a quiz is developing a good topic! Once you have a good idea, create an account with Interact and get building!
