Ubersuggest vs. Semrush: Which SEO Tool is Right for Your Business?

SEO

ubersuggest vs semrush

One of our most asked questions is, “What SEO tools do you recommend?” Ubersuggest and Semrush are always our go-to’s! We use both, and each has pros and cons. If you’re deciding between Ubersuggest vs. SEMrush, consider the features you need for your SEO strategy.

We won’t leave you hanging! This blog breaks down each of the main features in both tools and how they differ. You’ll know which is best for you by the end!

Overview of Ubersuggest vs. Semrush

Abbey actually uses both tools, so you can’t go wrong with the one you pick! Ubersuggest provides a great overview of all the data you need to know to make informed decisions. Semrush dives a little deeper into the data. It gets super granular, which you may or may not like. Sometimes, the data is helpful for our SEO audits, but if we were just trying to optimize our website, it might be too much.

The measurements and data can vary depending on the SEO tool you use. This is because each tool uses a different methodology to calculate each metric.

Key Features

Down to the core, these two tools do the same thing – help you perform keyword research and optimize your website. However, they have slightly different capabilities, so you might prefer one over the other. Let’s explore the key features of Ubersuggest vs. Semrush!

Keyword Research

Both tools identify high-ranking keywords and give you suggestions related to your search. Ubersuggest allows you to search up to three keywords at a time, while Semrush allows 100 keywords in a single search. Each keyword will show:

  • Volume: How many times the keyword is searched per month on average.
  • Intent: The purpose behind the inquiry.
  • Cost-per-click: Average cost per click in ad campaigns.
  • Paid difficulty: Estimated competition in paid search.
  • SEO difficulty: Estimated competition in organic search.

Site Audits

You can also look at a specific domain to see an overview of its organic search traffic, organic and paid keywords they rank for, domain authority, and backlink count. Semrush also includes data on countries, SERP features, branded vs. non-branded content, and main organic competitors.

Abbey uses this data for Duo and our clients. We get an idea of where they’re at before we start working with them. Then about six months later, we send them an update to show how much their SEO has improved since working with us.

Backlink Analysis

Do you remember what backlinks are? A backlink is a link to your website living on someone else’s website. High-quality backlinks can improve your search rankings! However, they tend to fluctuate a lot, so don’t worry too much about the analytics. It’s most important to be aware of who is linking to your website and how much traffic you’re getting from the backlink.

Ubersuggest and Semrush help you track backlinks. We think Semrush does a better job of this than Ubersuggest. Ubersuggest’s data is more of an overview that includes the number of backlinks you have, referring domains, and anchor text used, then shows a list of your current backlinks.

Semrush, on the other hand, shows all that data and more.

  • Estimates the amount of monthly traffic you get from each backlink
  • Shows new and lost backlinks each day
  • Lists the categories of referring domains
  • Shows the type of backlinks you have (text, image, form, etc.)

Semrush also has a link-building tool that helps you identify opportunities for new backlinks, which we really like!

Competitor Analysis

Both tools allow you to track competitors. You can see how their website and SEO measure up against yours. Analyzing your competitors can help you find gaps that could be an opportunity for you. It’s important to pay attention to the traffic your competitors are getting and the keywords they’re ranking for.

Content Optimization

Ubersuggest and Semrush give you suggestions to make your content even better. They will suggest different keywords with a better chance of ranking and give you new content ideas. This feature is super helpful as you plan and write blog content!

Pricing and Plans

Ubersuggest is the most cost-effective tool. For the individual license, you can pay $29/month or pay a one-time fee of $290 and get access forever! We paid the lifetime access fee for the Business license. Abbey uses this tool every day, so that fee was worth it for us. We love that it was a one-time thing, and now we can use it whenever we want!

Semrush is much more expensive at $139.95/month or $117.33/month, paid annually for the Pro plan. However, you get what you pay for! They have a lot more features and in-depth analysis than Ubersuggest. We also purchased this tool because of how many SEO clients we work with each year.

User Experience and Interface

Since Abbey uses these tools every day, they’re easy for her to navigate. It was a little bit of a learning curve, though! Be patient with yourself as you explore these tools!

Ubersuggest is easier for people to learn, which is why we teach our SEO on Tap students how to use it. You won’t get bogged down in the details—you’ll find everything you need quickly.

Semrush is a little trickier only because it has so many features. However, everything is labeled intuitively, so you can still find resources fairly easily.

How Abbey Uses Both Tools

Our SEO queen uses a mix of both Ubersuggest and Semrush when working on SEO client projects.

We frequently recommend Ubersuggest to fellow entrepreneurs and small business owners who manage their own SEO or a small number of clients. It’s an amazing tool at an affordable price that allows you to conquer your organic SEO growth.

Semrush allows us to dig into deeper pages with each audit. Our favorite parts of this platform are the link-building tool, the ease and use of their keyword manager and lists, and the listings management feature for local SEO growth.

Ubersuggest vs. Semrush: Which Will You Pick?

As long as you measure your growth somewhere and understand what the metrics mean, you will grow in the right direction. Don’t stress about what the experts are saying… just get to work!
