How We Helped The Cart Collective Rebuild Their SEO After a Full Rebrand

All the SEO bros will tell you that a domain migration will wipe out your search authority overnight. Every backlink, ranking, and ounce of trust you built with Google is gone the second you switch URLs.

Although it’s true, you don’t need to be scared of making this switch. And we’ve got a story to share about this exact scenario for a mobile cart company.

Most businesses panic when that happens because they assume SEO stopped working.

The Cart Collective didn’t panic. They came to us instead to rebuild their SEO.

We get asked about SEO for specialty food truck owners more often than you might think, because mobile businesses face a different set of local ranking challenges than storefronts do.

This business was growing fast, and their old domain cornered them into a single market— Paletas. Yet, they offered so much more. It was time to expand their brand, which was the entire reason for changing their name and their .com.

So let’s talk about it. Here’s how we made that shift.

Meet The Cart Collective

The Cart Collective (formerly Paleta Please) is a husband-and-wife operation out of Los Angeles, run by Jesenia and Chris.

We admire the heck out of them! Not only are they running an extremely successful mobile cart business out of LA, but they are also homeschooling, raising their family, and always putting their kids first. There is truly nothing better than partnering with clients who share our values!

Have you ever attended an entrepreneur conference where you start the day with a gorgeously on-brand coffee cart?

Or say one of your favorite brands just dropped a new product, and to celebrate, they are handing out a sweet treat before you even walk into the store.

This is exactly what The Cart Collective specializes in. Creating those brand experiences that make you feel something and build a deeper connection with the brands you love.

The Challenge: How to Change Your Brand Name Without Starting Over

The defining fact of this case study is the rebrand. Sometimes you need to rebrand, regardless of how strong your domain or your SEO is. Your business has grown, and your old domain no longer serves you. And that’s okay!

The Cart Collective migrated from their old domain, paletaplease.com, to a brand new one, thecartcollective.com. That meant their search authority started over from zero. Your domain authority lives with your domain (or your .com). This means whenever you change your domain, you are essentially starting over from scratch. But there are ways to help speed up the authority number. And that’s exactly what we did here.

Paleta Please had already built some authority in the space… here’s where they were:

  • 403 keywords indexed
  • 489 monthly organic visitors
  • 14 domain authority

Jesenia’s other challenge was perception. A lot of people still thought of them as an ice cream truck for backyard birthday parties. And although that may have been how they started, they’ve grown to offer so much more:

  • Brand activations
  • Corporate events
  • High-end experiences.

So the challenge was to rebrand without losing their SEO authority.

Our SEO Strategy for This LA Mobile Cart

The Cart Collective already had the Instagram-worthy product, the experience, and the client roster (Hello Fox, Netflix, and Nike… talk about some big brand names!) to back up a corporate positioning. What they didn’t have was a website that told Google or anyone searching the full story.

Here’s what we set out to do:

Transfer the domain authority.

We needed to get thecartcollective.com to where paletaplease.com used to stand without waiting years for it to happen naturally. Of course, we wanted to grow beyond the original domain, but getting it to match was priority #1.

Get them found for more than their own name.

It was important for them to show up for the searches their dream clients actually type in, not just things like “mobile coffee cart” and “branded popsicle cart,” but also for things like “brand activations” and “influencer marketing event vendors”… this is LA, after all!  We wanted to grow beyond the people who already knew The Cart Collective.

Reposition the brand for where they actually wanted to go.

We needed to move the site’s whole story away from cute party carts and toward brand activations and corporate events. This meant more than just adding a few words to the page. We needed a whole lot more content to do so.

Just a few of the SEO changes we made…

Every SEO update we made was to get thecartcollective.com back to where paletaplease.com was at, while addressing the local market and how they now wanted to be perceived.

Add new pages

For this new audience searching for experiential events, we needed a page that walked them through the experience, built trust, demonstrated their authority, and included the words people were searching for. Here’s what we created.

Build trust

SEO is about more than just keywords, especially in today’s AI world. Authority, trust, and experience matter… this is known as E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness). For The Cart Collective, this meant showing case studies, logos of past clients, stating their years of experience, and creating content that demonstrates their expertise.

Create content

Blogging is still so important, especially for AI tools. Keeping your website flowing with fresh content and content that aligns with the new brand direction shows experience and gives people more opportunities to find you.

Focus on the local market

LA is a big place. We needed to address where they wanted to focus. FAQs are actually a great way to do this!

Create an easy-to-navigate experience

We needed to restructure the navigation to address a wide range of clients, from cart rentals to large-scale brand activations. We didn’t want anyone to question where to go when they landed on their website, whether they came in through the home page or a blog post.

SEO before

Today: The Cart Collective

SEO after
  • They started from actual zero. thecartcollective.com had no search presence at all because it was a brand-new domain. This meant no keywords and no traffic. Nothing automatically carries over from the old domain unless you help it (which is what we did)
  • Back to full parity, and then past it. The new domain now pulls in 340 monthly organic visitors, more than their old domain did.
  • 190+ keywords ranking, up 32% in the last year alone (144 in July 2025 → 190 today).
  • The last six months have been the steepest yet. Traffic climbed from 229 in January 2026 to 340 in July — a 48% jump in half a year. This is the magic of investing in your foundation because it keeps working even when we are not!
  • The traffic isn’t resting on one page anymore. In January 2023, 98% of all organic traffic landed on the paletaplease.com homepage. Today it’s spread across nine pages, each earning its own ranking.
  • They now own the gelato mobile cart category. Position 1 or 2 for “gelato cart rental,” “gelato cart catering,” “gelato cart party rental,” “gelato cart for hire,” and “gelato cart corporate rental”
  • The repositioning is showing up in search. They now rank for “brand activation los angeles” (position 7) and “brand activation event venue” — corporate-intent searches paletaplease.com had zero visibility for.
  • Six product lines have their own ranking pages. Gelato, paletas, fruit, dessert and pastry, popcorn, and agua frescas, instead of one homepage that covers everything for “paleta cart.”

Here’s what Jesenia had to say about our projects:

“We absolutely loved working with Abbey & Courtney on our SEO. We just launched our new brand and wanted to make sure we created our site correctly. They were so great in helping us understand the world of SEO. They walked us through each step and quickly answered any questions we had. With so many aspects of our business to invest in, SEO is right up there at the top of our priority list. We have no doubt that the work they put in will help our business thrive.”

The Business Was Always Bigger Than the Cart

The Cart Collective is so much more than just a cute mobile cart company. They were built for brand activations and corporate work from day one, but their website hadn’t caught up yet.

If you’re reading this thinking… that’s me. My website is describing a business I don’t run anymore. But I’ll deal with it next year.

We get it. A rebrand or a domain change feels like something you survive and then never look at again. It’s also the exact moment when the strategy matters most, and The Cart Collective is what happens when someone handles it on purpose rather than hoping for the best.

Whether you’ve already rebranded and need help recovering traffic and authority from an older domain, or you know a rebrand is in your future, let’s chat and set you up with a solid SEO plan.

No Storefront? Here’s What We Get Asked Most.

Can you do local SEO without a physical address?

Yes, and Google has a whole business type for it. A service-area business lets you set the cities you serve rather than a storefront address. The Cart Collective covers all of Los Angeles out of no fixed location. What matters is that your website names the places you actually go, which is why we leaned on FAQ content and location language instead of inventing an address.

How long does SEO take to work?

Longer than anyone selling it to you wants to admit, and it depends on whether you’re starting from scratch. The Cart Collective launched a brand new domain in September 2023 with zero keywords and zero traffic. They crossed 100 keywords around month ten, and it took until year three to pass what the old domain had been doing. If someone is promising you page one in 90 days on a new domain, be suspicious.

Does changing your domain name affect SEO?

Yes, and more than most people expect. Your rankings and backlinks are attached to the old domain, so a new one starts at zero even when the business is identical. That’s not a reason to skip a rebrand you want. It means the redirects, the backlink rebuild, and the page optimization belong in the launch plan, not on a list you get to later.

Is SEO worth it if most of my work comes from referrals?

Referrals and search aren’t competing for the same job. Corporate and agency buyers Google vendors before they ask a colleague, especially when there’s a real budget attached. Referrals bring you the people who already know you. Search brings you everyone who doesn’t yet.

Is it worth revisiting SEO years after the first project wrapped?

Often, yes. Businesses change, and so does what you want to be found for. We came back to The Cart Collective two years later because they’d grown into corporate work, and the site was still reflecting a cute party cart. Their SEO strategy now revolves around a new brand perception and identity.
