If you’ve ever logged into LinkedIn and felt overwhelmed by cold pitches, connection requests with sales notes, or just that general ick feeling—you’re not alone. That’s not the kind of LinkedIn energy we’re about. Today, we’re chatting with LinkedIn marketing strategy expert Diane Marie B., who is here to help us flip that script.
This episode is all about using LinkedIn to build genuine connections, grow your audience organically, and, yes—even drive leads—without acting like a robot. Let’s get into it!
What You’ll Hear in This Episode:
- What are a couple of simple steps to get started?
- What kind of content works best on LinkedIn right now? Should you be repurposing content from other platforms (like Instagram or email)?
- What are some of the biggest red flags or LinkedIn icks turning people off?
- Are there any features or tools on the platform you think more people should be using?
- What does a typical flow look like for you and your business? How often are you on LinkedIn?
How to Get Started on LinkedIn
Our LinkedIn marketing strategy and profiles are a little dusty, and maybe yours is, too! So, we asked Diane how to get started on LinkedIn as entrepreneurs.
Refresh Your Profile
A lot of us probably need to refresh our profile (we definitely do!) Start by cleaning up your profile so when you start creating content, it all feels like the same experience.
Here are some easy ways to update your profile:
- Keyword-rich headline
- Contact info
- Website link
- Experience
- Case studies
- Skills
- Ask for recommendations
Be Yourself
LinkedIn is often seen as a platform where you have to be corporatey. You can’t have fun or let your brand voice shine. But that’s not true! You can still show up exactly as you are. Post a picture of you and your family or on vacation. LinkedIn is all about making connections, and that kind of content resonates with people the best, even on LinkedIn!
Business Page vs. Personal Profile
One of Diane’s most common questions about LinkedIn is whether entrepreneurs should primarily use a business page or their personal profile to interact with their audience and connections.
Diane says having a business profile is important as a business owner. It should act as a storefront so that when people visit your business, you look more professional.
Interacting with people should be done from your personal profile. We’ve all heard that people want to connect with others, and this is true on LinkedIn, too! It’s important to show up as an individual on a platform that feels very businessy.
Business owners actually have an advantage on LinkedIn! Your business is an extension of you, so it’s easier for you to make that connection. That should take some of the pressure off!
How Often to Show Up on LinkedIn
Diane recommends batching content and aligning the topics with her Instagram content. It shouldn’t be the same post, but it can talk about the same thing. This should help speed up the batching process a little bit, but she still dedicates a few hours a month to creating LinkedIn content.
Diane also tells us to log in 10 minutes before we post and make sure all our messages are read and replied to. Comment on your connection’s posts and reply to comments on your posts. Also, spend the next 10 minutes after you post engaging with your audience. If you skip this step, Diane says there’s no point to even being on the platform, and you’re wasting content.
