Happy birthday to the Duo On Air Podcast! đŸ„ł This is our 52nd episode meaning we’ve been publishing podcast episodes for one whole year. When we started this podcast, we had no idea it would become what it has today. We couldn’t be more proud. And we wouldn’t be where we are without you, so THANK YOU for listening, sharing and following along with us. We hope you’ve learned a thing or two from this podcast and continue to see it as a resource for your business. Because we aren’t even close to done!

1-Year of Podcasting Highlights

With that, we’d like to celebrate with some highlights from this year! Pop the bubbly đŸŸ and sparkling cider for Court. đŸ€° Here are just a few of the Duo On Air accomplishments:

  • Published 52 weekly episodes.
  • Over 10,000 downloads to date.
  • We’ve been a guest on 7 other podcasts to date (a number we are excited to grow in 2023!)
  • We won the best business podcast award from Quill.
  • We made the top 5 for Best Podcasts for Twin Cities Collective, a local community here in Minnesota.
  • We peaked at #12 on the Marketing Charts for the U.S. and hit various lists in other countries. (damn we are proud of that number!)

So
podcasts are definitely not dying. These milestones in just one year of podcasting are proof!

So, you want to go “viral”?

We heard the term “going viral” a lot in our agency days. “Make this marketing campaign go viral.” 😅 It’s not something you can make happen; it’s random, and it’s not something you can predict. And who likes to base their business on something that may or may not work?! It’s a rough way to live.

We don’t care about going viral (like, at all). We’ve had a few reels that have gone viral-ish, and it has never equated to anything for our business. It occasionally brings in a few more followers, but it never converts. It’s just not something we want to waste our time stressing over.

What should you do instead of trying to go viral?

Instead of trying to create viral content, we focus on tangible growth goals. Outreach is one of those goals, specifically growing our backlinks and authority on Google. Not many people realize this, but a smart way to do that can be by being a guest on more podcasts. Because most podcasts offer show notes — like this— and those show notes can link back to your website.

So by focusing on growing backlinks we pitched an opportunity that made us almost shit our pants. We pitched to be on Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger Podcast and it actually happened!

Here are the results that came pouring in after being a guest on one podcast:

  • Received 31 (and counting) new client leads
  • Booked 9 of them (so far)
  • Made $55,000 in revenue

… from ONE podcast! It’s actually crazy how much your business can skyrocket by networking with other business owners and working together to build each other’s brands.

For 2023, we urge you to focus more on outreach like this rather than attempting to record “viral content”. So what are you waiting for!? Make a list of podcasts you want to be a guest on and pitch them! You never know who will accept, and it might just be the thing that catapults your business to the next level. Not sure where to start, use Chartable to find the top podcasts in your industry.
