Happy birthday, Abbey! We’re going to start featuring and celebrating our team during their birthday months, and our very own SEO queen is up first! We asked our audience on Instagram to drop questions about anything they want to know about Abbey. Have fun getting to know this lovely human!
Do you have kids?
I have two boys. My oldest is six and started kindergarten this year. My youngest is four and a half (and yes, the half is important—he will never forget to tell you the half.) They’re exactly 18 months apart. They are sometimes best friends and sometimes worst enemies. The wrestling started way earlier than I thought, but I love being a boy mom!
What did you want to be when growing up or in college?
When I was little, I wanted to be a Disney princess (obviously, who wouldn’t?!) But then I found out that you have to be a specific height for certain characters, and that crushed my dream.
I’ve always loved marketing. In high school, I joined a marketing club called DECA and had the best time learning all about marketing. I got a degree in advertising and a minor in marketing.
I also thought about being a marine biologist in high school. If I had gone that route, Duo would not be here today!
Do you have any regrets in life?
I don’t feel like I look back at my life and feel like there’s a big regret. Everything I’ve made decisions on, I’ve learned from. And that experience is invaluable, even if it wasn’t the best thing to happen or go through.
Maybe one would be when I studied abroad in Australia. I was homesick after my semester was over, so I skipped the opportunity to spend an extra week in New Zealand. I do wish I had gone!
Next bucket list travel location?
For a family vacation with my kids, I want to take them on a safari in Africa. My husband Glenn and I went on a safari, and it’s still one of my favorite trips. I would also love to take them to Ireland and Japan! Those are my family bucket list vacations.
I have a few for a couples trip with just my husband and me. Our wedding song was Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran, so I would love for us to go there. It’s off the coast of France! The other place is Zanzibar (a tiny island off the coast of Africa) because that was our dog’s name.
My Duo bucket list is Costa Rica!
What are you planting in the garden this year?
I was not good at garden planning last year, so I was determined to be on top of it this year! I have a whole setup in the basement with growing lights, and my seeds have started.
I always plant a lot of peppers, green beans, cucumbers, squashes, tomatoes, and all the herbs. Some of the weirder things I’ve done are celery and okra. I have a whole spreadsheet that helps me keep track of everything!
What’s something you would tell your younger self?
I would remind her to be confident in everything she does and that she will do great things as long as she believes in herself.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve done to date?
Giving birth is crazy! But also, while studying abroad in Australia, I skydived and bungee-jumped twice on the same day.
If you had to pick between sweet and salty for the rest of your life, what would it be?
No question – salty.
Is there anything you miss about agency life?
I have fond memories of our agency life. I miss traveling to clients and meeting with people in-person. Most of what we do at Duo is virtual, which is convenient, but sometimes I miss the face-to-face interaction!
Also, when we work with small businesses, we help them with their day-to-day. But when we worked at the agency, we worked on campaigns and could be really creative with our ideas and their big budgets.
