I am so excited to introduce you to Sunny! She has worked with huge brands like Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, GM, Ford, and the Toronto Raptors. Although she was the creative director of an advertising agency working with these brands, she felt disconnected from her purpose and values. Anyone who has worked in corporate can relate to that, right?!
So, she made the transition to full-time entrepreneurship. She founded her business today, Sunny McGaw Marketing, at age 50 and she is a living model of the fact that it is never too late to follow your dreams. She has so much wisdom to share with us about finding the right mindset for success. This is a value-packed episode; we hope you enjoy it!
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
- Tell us a story about a client of yours or a marketing struggle and what was holding them back.
- What are some tips we can take as business owners to build better goals with a growth mindset?
- What tips do you have to feel more confident when it comes to marketing our offers?
The YouSLAY Framework
You: Unwavering Belief in Yourself
You must believe that you are capable of achieving your goals. You do NOT need to have
the entire roadmap perfected, (no perfection welcome!), but believe that you are the
person to make this happen.
S: Your Squad
Surround yourself with the best. People who want you to succeed. People who will
provide you with tough feedback, and always have your best interest in mind. You
are the sum of the FIVE people you spend the most time with — so curate your
L: Laser Focused on Your Goals
Don’t get distracted by ‘shiny-object syndrome’! Decide on 1-3 tasks or items that will
move you toward your goal, and don’t say ‘yes’ to one other thing until those are
A: Have a Bias for Action
Ideas are a dime-a-dozen. Taking action, (even messy action), is THE biggest
differentiator in successful people.
Y: Your High, High Expectations
Everything great in life stems from having high expectations. Think of this: Make sure
that your goal is a ‘B.H.A.G.’: a Big Hairy Audacious Goal! Don’t do yourself the
disservice of setting a mediocre goal or expectation — there is no magic there!
The Balance Between Consuming and Creating Content
There comes a point when we need to stop consuming content and start creating. In this episode, we talked about getting bogged down in looking for inspiration or motivation by reading self-help books, listening to podcasts, reading blogs, searching on Google, etc.
But sometimes, consuming content becomes our roadblock. We’re so caught up in searching for validation that we have a good idea or want to learn something new that we end up not doing anything. I’ve been there before! I get in this mindset that I need to read ALLLL of the business books to learn everything I can about a certain topic. But after a while, I find that I hate reading. Too much of something can be a bad thing!
If you’ve been feeling the same way, stop consuming content and start creating. You don’t need Google to tell you that you have a good idea (this is coming from an SEO specialist!) If you know your audience, believe this new offer will help them, and it aligns with your goals and values, create it and see what happens! Have the confidence to try.
I know this is easier said than done. Sunny talked about the side of the brain that gets scared when you try to step outside your comfort zone. You feel anxious, insecure, or self-conscious. To avoid this, Sunny tells those voices in her head, “Thanks for trying to keep me safe, but I’ve got this.” And she moves forward with her idea! It’s a simple mindset for success shift that helps you grow as a person and a business.
Changing your mindset for success is difficult, but it makes all the difference in your business and growth goals. You got this!
